A
supplier contact management system for a fabrication company
The customer runs
a steel fabrication business, providing fabricated structures for the off shore
oil industry.
They
have a wide range of suppliers for differing products and services and need
to keep track of who supplies what and their approvals and assessments.
This
had previously been done with a database that had been developed by a local
consultant, however this did not offer the flexibility to add and remove suppliers
and the categories of work that they were able to undertake. As a result the
system had been largely superseded by a set of Excel spreadsheets, but these
were time consuming to maintain.
Quinata
developed an enhanced contact management system which allowed one or more categories
of business to be associated with each supplier along with product and contact
details. The system was installed in the customer's existing networked PCs using
the main user's desk top PC as a "server" for the system. This means
that all staff have access to the data and can make updates as required.
To keep
the cost to a minimum the customer decided to enter data from the previous system
manually, with Quinata providing telephone support for the process.
