End to end stock management for a steel stock holding and shearing company

The company had previously used a “home made” database to record their stock and a paper based process for processing orders, work instructions and material despatch.

A manual system was also used for stock taking.

Because the company recycles automotive steel blanks in addition to supplying standard sheet steel and requires batch traceablity no standard stock control system was capable of meeting their needs.

Quinata provided a database that covers the entire business process including:

Placing of purchase orders
Receipt of material
Tracking of material at a batch level to provide full traceablility
Sales order entry
Allocation of material to sales orders
Production of works instructions
Recording of material produced and updating stock records
Production of delivery notes

In addition the system has a module for stock taking.

The system has now been in use for three years.

Installation of the system has allowed the business to operate with reduced staff overheads and has reduced stock taking discrepancies substantially.
